In the last two decades, the Nigerian economy has witnessed very sluggish growth rate with stunted economic development. For instance, the average annual growth rate of the economy from 2013 to 2022 was 2.4%, while average GDP Per Capita remained low at US$2352.01 for the same period. The period was beset with a litany of challenges including fuel and foreign exchange crises, abrasive monetary and fiscal management, etc., which had adverse effects on private businesses in terms of capacity utilization, output, sales and profit as well as employment. The challenges have been existential to organized businesses as most of them were only able to stay afloat by sheer doggedness.
